Bay to Border

Ok so it's been close to two weeks since my official departure from work. And well, happy to report I am really enjoying this hiatus status. Just last week I enjoyed 2 movies, 2 happy hours, dinner with friends and a road trip through wine country in the Texas Hill country. Alright, good times. And more to come. I am currently planning a Pacific Northwest road trip with my friend Melissa, the first two weeks of August. A student I met during my time teaching, Melissa is full of life, in the know of what's good to do, see and eat in Austin, and she also lived in San Francisco. We have really hit it off and I am looking forward to this fun filled excursion.

We will be flying to San Francisco. We will pick up a rental car and just be on our merry way. It's always bitter sweet for me to visit the Bay area. It still has a huge part of my heart. Only things on my agenda are to enjoy the sights, the cooler temperatures and of course food glorious food.

This will be my first time visiting Portland, our second stop. Looking forward to all of the amazing food carts. If my idea of Portland is anything like what I have seen on Portlandia, I think I will get a kick out of this place.

Then we are heading to Seattle, again another first for me. Rainy days, coffee galore, flying fish. What's the signature food there?
Lastly we are crossing the border and venturing to Vancouver. I am looking forward to getting my passport stamped. Hmm, Canada. Maple syrup, hockey, mounties. Reminds me of Dudley Do-Right from Rocky & Bullwinkle. Too bad Chuck Hughes is in another Canadian province. Next visit.
I would love any insight on places not to be missed. Be your city's ambassador of good taste. Please cut and paste this survey and add it in the comments section. Thanks!

Oh, I LOVE Seattle!! Chicago feels like home, but my heart is still somewhat in Seattle. I sat and read at this little coffee shop called Local Color. It's right near Pike's and has a lot of great local art displayed. Nothin' fancy, but it was one of my most favorite moments during my trip to Seattle. Also, so jealous you're going to Portland. I hope to get up there this fall.

Thanks for the tip Josh! I love small places that have character. Most likely where the locals hang out will give me a better sense of the place. Yeah, Portland is really booming right now. I'm looking forward to everything!
